Summer Chromebook Collection



In the 2016-2017 school year, the South Park School District launched a one-to-one initiative which provided each student in grades 3-12 with a Chromebook. Over the past three school years, these Chromebooks have become valuable learning tools both in the classroom and at home throughout the school year.

As we begin to prepare for the 2019-2020 school year, we have decided to collect all Chromebooks and district-issued charging cords prior to summer vacation. Chromebook cases will not be collected; students will be responsible for keeping those cases over the summer. Chromebook collections will be conducted during the school day according to the schedule below. Collecting all student Chromebooks and charging cords will allow our technology department to properly inspect the Chromebooks and make the necessary repairs prior to the first day of school on Monday, August 26, 2019.

All students will be required to complete a Chromebook Condition Form which will be provided to them by their homeroom teachers. An example of this form can be found by clicking here. On that form, students will indicate whether their Chromebook needs to be repaired or does not include a charger. The first accidental repair claim for a student with a valid 2018-2019 protection plan is $0. The second accidental repair claim for a student with a valid 2018-2019 protection plan is $30. The third accidental repair claim for a student with a valid 2018-2019 protection plan is $30. If a repair needs to be made to a student’s Chromebook and that student does not have a valid 2018-2019 protection plan, the family will be required to pay the full repair/replacement cost for parts and devices prior to the Chromebook being re-issued to the student in the fall. Students will be invoiced for all fees or repair/replacement costs.

The collection schedule for spring 2019 is:

Grades 3-4 Week of May 27
Grades 5-8  May 30 and 31
Grades 9-11  May 30 and 31
Grade 12  May 23 and 24

We plan to issue new Chromebooks in the fall to next year’s fifth and ninth grade students. All other students will be re-issued their original Chromebook in the fall, pending the inspection and any needed repairs by our technology department staff. More details about fall Chromebook distribution and 2019-2020 protection plans will be shared in early summer.
