South Park Families:

The South Park School District was notified by its transportation provider, First Student, that a district bus driver, an employee of First Student, tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. The individual last drove a district bus on Monday, November 2. The district is working closely with First Student to enact the procedures for responding to a confirmed case from the district’s Health and Safety Plan and is following the guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. We are working closely with the Allegheny County Health Department and will continue to adhere to all guidance and recommendations provided to us by public health officials.

The Allegheny County Health Department notified the district that no district students will need to quarantine because of physical distancing procedures in place on district buses.

The driver’s bus was once again thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

The First Student employee will not drive a bus until the isolation period has concluded.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports individuals with COVID-19 may have mild to severe illness, and symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.

Symptoms may include:

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

Individuals who exhibit any of these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

The health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and community are our primary concern. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify families and staff of any additional actions that may need to be taken.

This communication is being shared with all district families and staff as part of the procedures outlined in the district’s Health and Safety Plan approved by the Board of Directors on Tuesday, July 28. We will not release any additional information due to confidentiality and patient privacy laws.
