The South Park School District was notified of two additional positive COVID-19 cases on Sunday, November 15, 2020. One is a district staff member who works out of South Park High School. The staff member was last at work on Friday, November 13. This case is connected to a previously reported positive case. The other positive case is a South Park High School student who was last in school on Thursday, November 12 and is a member of the South Park hockey team. 


We are continuing to consult with the Allegheny County Health Department and are adhering to all guidance and recommendations provided to us by public health officials. 


At this time, no additional close contacts have been identified. However, if any are later identified, they will be notified by the district and/or the Allegheny County Health Department and begin quarantine.


Our facilities staff continues to thoroughly clean and disinfect all buildings including affected areas of the high school.


The individuals will not return to work/school until the isolation period has concluded.


South Park High School will operate under a remote instructional model from Monday, November 16 through Wednesday, November 25. South Park Elementary Center and South Park Middle School will continue to operate under a hybrid instructional model at this time. 


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports individuals with COVID-19 may have mild to severe illness, and symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms may include:

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

Individuals who exhibit any of these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

The health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and community are our primary concern. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify families and staff of any additional actions that may need to be taken. 

This communication is being shared with all district families and staff as part of the procedures outlined in the district’s Health and Safety Plan approved by the Board of Directors on Tuesday, July 28. We will not release any additional information due to confidentiality and patient privacy laws.
