¡Bienvenidos! My name is Mrs. King and I am very excited to be starting my second year of teaching at South Park School District! This year, I am teaching Spanish I and Spanish IV.
I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Hispanic Studies. While at the University of Kentucky, I studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico for a semester. Here, I attended La Universidad Autónoma "Benito Juarez" de Oaxaca. I also lived with a host family.
I then pursued my Masters degree at the University of Pittsburgh, and graduated with my Masters of Arts in Teaching Foreign Language. During my time at the Univeristy of Pittsburgh, I completed a year-long student teaching internship at the Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, gardening, travelling, and playing with my dogs or cats! I have traveled to Spain, Italy, France, Mexico, Honduras, and most recently Greece. I try to bring these travel experiences into the classroom.
I strive, as part of my teaching philosophy, to help students learn to effectively communicate in the Spanish language. If they were to be dropped off in another country, I would hope they could communicate and speak well, rather than conjugate verbs or talk about grammar. Therefore, in my classroom we work on communication in the modes of speaking, reading, listening, and writing. In my Spanish classroom we focus on COMMUNICATION and you will hear a lot of speaking!
