Norman Rockwell, Norman Rockwell Visits a Country School

About Me
I am a Art Education graduate of Seton Hill University with a K-12 teaching certification. Prior to teaching 5th through 8th grade art at South Park School District, I was employed within Charles County Public Schools in Charles County, Maryland teaching PreK through 5th grade art.  My studio skills include my study of Drawing, Design, Painting, Advanced 2D Media, Ceramics, Printmaking, and Sculpture.  In addition, I have studied both Western and Non-Western Art History as well as Philosophy of Art.

Classroom Philosophy
I believe art to be any works produced via creative and expressive means.   Art must be experienced, and consequently felt.  Whether fine or commercial, art is an inescapable presence within our contemporary society.  This ubiquity is what makes art so powerful, so influential.  As an educator, it is my goal for students realize, and in turn utilize, the overwhelming potential of art.  Most importantly, I want to enrich their everyday lives through art instruction.  My intention is to help students to develop into creative, deep, and critical thinkers capable of drawing connections between themselves, others, and the world in which they live.  Through art, I wish for them to find meaning and understanding, as well as openness toward unfamiliarity.

I sincerely believe that there is a niche within art for every individual, and that every student has an inner artist.  I want for my students to experiment in risk-taking within their art in order to realize their own inner artist and utilize their skillset to create purposeful and relevant works.  I believe that under this philosophy of education, students will be able to learn valuable life skills through the study and creation of art.
