South Park Families:

Today, the South Park School District was notified that a staff member at South Park Elementary Center has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual does not work with students in a school classroom. The South Park School District has enacted the procedures for responding to a confirmed case from our Health and Safety Plan and followed the guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. We are working closely with the Allegheny County Health Department and will continue to adhere to all guidance and recommendations provided to us by public health officials.

After consultation with and an investigation by the Allegheny County Health Department, no individuals are considered to be close contacts from any in-school interactions.

Affected areas of the elementary center will once again be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected as per Pennsylvania Department of Health and CDC guidelines.

The individual will not return to school until the isolation period has concluded.

If an additional positive case of COVID-19 is reported at South Park Elementary Center before Friday, October 9, the elementary center may need to close for 5-7 days based on Pennsylvania Department of Health recommendations and guidance. If the elementary center were to close, all students at South Park Elementary Center only would participate in remote learning from home for the closure period.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports individuals with COVID-19 may have mild to severe illness, and symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms may include:

Fever or chills

Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

Individuals who exhibit any of these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

The health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and community are our primary concerns. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify families and staff of any additional actions that may need to be taken.

This communication is being shared with all district families and staff as part of the procedures outlined in the district’s Health and Safety Plan approved by the Board of Directors on Tuesday, July 28. We will not release any additional information due to confidentiality and patient privacy laws.
