We hope you had an enjoyable and safe winter break. With the planned resumption of a remote instructional model in all three South Park schools today, we wanted to share our instructional plan, as of today, for Monday, January 11, 2021. Again, this instructional plan may change due to the constantly changing nature of the pandemic.

The South Park School District intends to resume a hybrid instructional model in all three schools (South Park Elementary Center, South Park Middle School and South Park High School) on Monday, January 11, 2021. For the week of January 11, Hybrid Group A students will attend in-person classes on January 11 and 13. Hybrid Group B students will attend in-person classes on January 12 and 14. The hybrid calendar for the remainder of the second quarter can be found by clicking here.

As we prepare to resume the hybrid instructional model, we are once again reminding families that changes to our instructional model may occur quickly and must take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, the number of COVID-19 cases in the district, community and county; the impacts – educational, health, and social/emotional – on our students; the ability of the district to staff classrooms and positions; and the guidelines and recommendations from state and county health officials. Additionally, the district is required to adhere to the mandates from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Health regarding building closures following the identification of a certain number of cases in a building. In the substantial level of community transmission, if a school has 4-6 cases among students or staff over a 14-day rolling period, the school will be directed to close for 3-7 days. In the substantial level of community transmission, if a school has 7 or more cases among students or staff over a 14-day rolling period, the school will be directed to close for 14 days.

We ask for your continued cooperation to ensure the success of the district’s hybrid instructional model. Continue to use and follow the district’s at-home symptom screening tool before leaving for school each day. If your child is told to quarantine or if your child or an immediate family member has tested positive for COVID-19, please notify your child’s school nurse as soon as possible and wait for further guidance before returning to school. Continue to practice physical distancing, wear face coverings when leaving home, wash hands frequently, clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces and avoid large gatherings.

The district is planning a phased transition from the hybrid instructional model to additional in-person learning days beginning with our youngest learners as early as the start of the third quarter on February 1, while still offering the South Park Cyber Academy option to all families. Additional details about this phased transition will be communicated with families this week. This plan remains contingent on a number of factors, and our planned implementation may need to be delayed depending on those factors over the coming weeks.
