This is the image for the news article titled Remote Instruction Through January 8, 2021All South Park schools will be in a remote instructional model through Friday, January 8, 2021. The tentative return date to the hybrid instructional model in the South Park School District will be Monday, January 11, 2021. The upcoming schedule is:

Monday, December 14 - Wednesday, December 23: Remote Instruction

Thursday, December 24 - Friday, January 1: Winter Break, No Instruction

Monday, January 4 - Friday, January 8: Remote Instruction

The district’s priority has always been to maximize in-person instruction while ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and community and adhering to public health guidance and mandates. However, our schools do not operate in a vacuum. What is happening in our community, county and region directly impacts every South Park school. COVID-19 cases are spiking. Cases in South Park Township have increased by 57% in the last two weeks, according to the Allegheny County Health Department. More cases mean more individuals, including school staff members, are being told to quarantine after exposures to confirmed cases in their households, families, or communities. Maintaining school building operations and ensuring adequate staffing, supervision and consistent classroom instruction cannot be sustained at this point in the pandemic.

This decision is difficult and imposes a significant burden on our families. We are announcing the extension of remote instruction through January 8 now to give families the opportunity to plan for the time after the upcoming winter break. The extension into January also gives us a ten-day period of time after New Year’s Day before the hybrid instructional model would resume. This timeframe is consistent with the new CDC quarantine recommendation of ten days.

All South Park students will attend classes remotely and receive synchronous, asynchronous or recorded instruction every school day, not just on the days when they were scheduled to be in person under the hybrid model. Teachers will be communicating their specific remote instructional procedures with students and families.

During this remote instructional period, students are to follow the attendance procedures they adhere to on at-home learning days. The instructions for students in each building and the online attendance forms can be found by clicking here.

All district activities, including sports, and events are canceled until Monday, January 4, as per the recent order of Governor Tom Wolf.

Grab-and-go meal distributions for the month of December will take place on December 14, 16, 18, 21 and 23. Families wishing to pick up grab-and-go meals must complete this online form. The complete schedule can be reviewed by clicking here. Grab-and-go meal distribution information for January will be shared soon.

The district will continue to provide frequent updates to families in the days and weeks ahead. An instructional model update and hybrid calendar for January will be sent to families and staff by early January.

If you have questions about remote instruction, contact your child’s teacher, counselor or principal.
