On Friday, May 10 the SPMS Gifted Program participated in the Gifted Junior Western Pennsylvania Envirothon. The Envirothon is a competition in which students must answer questions revolving around ecology and environmental science.

The fifth-grade team, led by Mr. Howard Anderson, placed second in their division. They came incredibly close to reclaiming their title as champions, finishing just two points behind the winner.

The fifth-grade team is composed of students Evelyn Daniel, Brook Lucot, Jordan Mazek, Luca Monaco, Addyson Simms and Felix Chen.

“Once again the South Park Eagles came prepared and eager to compete against everyone. Last year, they finished first, this year they earned 2nd place. I’m happy with their performance,” said Mr. Anderson.

Another SPMS team, led by Ms. Allison Watkins, placed respectfully in their division of Upper Middle School.

The Envirothon took place at the South Park Oval Museum Building and was hosted by Dan Giger of West Jefferson Hills School District.
