At its regular meeting on Thursday, November 9, 2023, the South Park School District Board of Directors hired Dr. Charissa Rychcik as the district’s director of special education effective November 28, 2023. Dr. Rychcik brings over 16 years of experience to the district.
Dr. Rychcik shared, "I am incredibly excited to serve in this role for the South Park students and families, and alongside my colleagues. Through collaboration and creative problem-solving, we can help our students have successful learning experiences and prepare them for bright futures ahead."
Dr. Rychcik comes to the South Park School District from the McGuffey School District where she served as supervisor of special education. There, she led special education, gifted education, English as a Second Language services, Section 504 services, and served as the McKinney-Vento Coordinator. Prior to her role with McGuffey School District, Dr. Rychcik worked at The Bradley Center School first as the Assistant Director of Education and then as the Director of Education. She served as the director for seven years and assistant director for two years. Prior to her employment at The Bradley Center School, Dr. Rychcik also worked as a life skills teacher at South Fayette High School.
Dr. Rychcik holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in special education from Alderson-Broaddus College, a masters degree in education with a focus in curriculum and instruction from Gannon University, and a doctoral degree in education leadership from the University of Pittsburgh.
Beyond her role at South Park, Dr. Rychcik has many interests, including making memories with her husband and extended family, showing a competitive edge while playing board games or cards, and reading. She also enjoys spending time in the kitchen attempting new recipes and trying her hand at becoming an ice cream connoisseur.
