South Park Families:

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff will always be our top priority. Additionally, we remain committed to transparency and open communication with our families. Today, the South Park Township Police Department received a report of a motorcyclist on Eagle Pride Lane (on the high school and elementary center campus) with what appeared to be the handle of a weapon in his waistband at approximately 9 a.m. Police cannot confirm whether it was a weapon. Township police immediately notified the school district’s police department. Our officers pulled security camera footage from our campus cameras in an attempt to identify the individual. The individual was on Eagle Pride Lane for approximately four minutes before leaving campus and turning onto McCorkle Road.

Please know, there is no current threat on our campuses. School district and township police officers are investigating, working to identify the individual, and patrolling all our school campuses. While we are unable to confirm at this time whether the individual indeed possessed a weapon, we will continue to investigate and monitor our campuses to ensure a safe school environment. Out of an abundance of caution, our schools are now operating under a modified lockdown. A modified lockdown means only individuals with scheduled appointments are permitted into our schools. Students will remain in our school buildings throughout the remainder of the school day. Instruction is taking place as usual. Indoor recess will be held at South Park Elementary Center today. School and township police will have an enhanced presence on our campuses during this ongoing investigation.

Anyone with additional details should contact the South Park Township Police Department. We extend our appreciation to the individual who reported this to South Park Township Police.

The district will always act in the interest of the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. In addition to a full-time police officer at every district school, the district’s emergency operations and safety plan is regularly enhanced and evaluated by our local and state law enforcement partners. If and when there are additional details to share, we will do so.
