Something big is coming to South Park High School this spring. South Park High School students are preparing to embark on a journey to organize a Four Diamonds Mini-THON in April.

South Park High School is one of more than 285 schools that have made a commitment to spreading awareness and raising funds for childhood cancer research and patient care and support at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Four Diamonds is a fund within The Pennsylvania State University, and Four Diamonds’ not-for-profit status is provided through Penn State’s status as a land grant institution and an instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

High school students Nicole Fytton, Jessica Joos, Maddy Kinevy and Cassie Klocek are this year’s Mini-THON officers. Mrs. Hecht and Mrs. Sciullo are working with the students to make this new effort a success.

There will be fundraising opportunities every month. These efforts include district-wide penny wars, restaurant nights, district-wide staff dress down days and a blue out t-shirt sale.

Students have already begun their fundraising efforts by having a competition between classes during Festivus week to see who could raise the most money.  High school teachers and staff raised $110, juniors raised $72, seniors raised $63, sophomores raised $33 and freshmen raised $15 for a total of $291 collected for the Mini-THON.

South Park High School’s Mini-THON will be Friday, April 24 in the high school gymnasium and aux gym. With this being the first year, the students’ goal is to have 200 high school students participate and to raise $7,000.

In the coming months, South Park students will work to raise money for the Four Diamonds Fund. Students form teams to fundraise ahead of the April Mini-THON. At the event, students will celebrate with music, dancing, games, food and more.
